Chiriquí knows the value of its coast and today it needs us not to look the other way

Today Chiriquí needs us not to look the other way because every mangrove, every fish bank and every estuary is not just a landscape: it is sustenance, identity and future for thousands of families.

But that value could be at risk due to the construction of a project that could transform one of the most valuable areas of the Gulf of Chiriquí. Various local groups, scientists, and organizations have pointed out that Puerto Barú could endanger David’s mangroves, artisanal fishing, tourism, and key species that depend on this ecosystem to survive.

Mangroves cannot be replaced; no progress can match the ecosystem services they provide, which protect the coast, feed communities, capture carbon, and sustain marine life.

Those who live here know it better than anyone. That’s why coastal communities are already raising their voices. When a community unites, it can stop what puts its future at risk.
