{"id":662,"date":"2025-02-17T18:07:30","date_gmt":"2025-02-17T18:07:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/noapuertobaru.com\/?p=662"},"modified":"2025-02-26T13:08:31","modified_gmt":"2025-02-26T13:08:31","slug":"supreme-court-admits-nullity-of-puerto-baru-impact-study","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/noapuertobaru.com\/en\/articles-2\/supreme-court-admits-nullity-of-puerto-baru-impact-study\/","title":{"rendered":"The Supreme Court of Justice admits lawsuit aiming to revoke the approval of the Environmental Impact Study of the Puerto Bar\u00fa project\u00a0in\u00a0David"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Puerto Baru project in David is intended to be built 20 kilometres from the city of David, in an area surrounded by 25% of Panama's remaining mangroves, which are home to critically endangered species such as the hawksbill turtle and the Central American black monkey.<\/p>\n<p>The plaintiffs aim to prove before the supreme court that the EIA approved by the previous administration of the Ministry of Environment was seriously flawed and did not comply with fundamental legal formalities for its assessment. In these circumstances, the instrument was incapable of providing a correct estimate of the true impact and risks of the project, a reality that has recently been <a href=\"https:\/\/noapuertobaru.com\/en\/press-release\/environmental-damage-report-puerto-baru\/\">confirmed by an independent report by a consulting firm with extensive experience in this type of project.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The demand is supported by more than 50 environmental organisations that have joined a campaign for the protection of the mangroves and #DileNoaPuertoBar\u00fa. These organisations are not against development, they all want jobs and economic growth in Chiriqui. But risking the destruction of our environment is not acceptable, especially when there are better and more connected areas where the port could be built. Unite.
