But what does this mean in the face of projects that could generate impacts on natural ecosystems? The existence of a law does not guarantee on its own the protection of nature. Rights need people capable of knowing them, defending them and demanding their enforcement.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Puerto Bar\u00fa and the Mangroves of David: a case to understand these rights<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project <\/span><b>Puerto Baru<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, proposed in the area of <\/span><b>Mangroves of David<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, it includes port infrastructure and dredging activities. Independent studies have warned about potential impacts associated with construction and dredging on mangroves, including their capacity to store carbon, protect coastlines and sustain biodiversity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Puerto Bar\u00fa allows, therefore it poses a legal and environmental question for a specific territory, and that is <\/span><b>how are the Rights of Nature defended in practice?<\/b><\/p>\n<h2><b>Leaders for Nature: from knowledge to action<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That question is at the heart of <\/span><b>Nature Leaders<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a training programme in <\/span><b>Rights of Nature, incidence and defence of ecosystems<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The proposal starts from Panama, but looks to the world. Because environmental challenges cross borders and the experiences of different territories can provide tools to act locally.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The programme aims for young people aged between <\/span><b>18 to 35 years<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> be able to learn how to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">understand the Rights of Nature<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">learn about environmental impact tools<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">explore real experiences of territory defence<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">better understand coastal-marine ecosystems<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">turn knowledge into practical actions<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is not necessary to study law, biology or environmental science. The important thing is wanting to learn and be part of the defence of nature.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Think globally, act locally<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Panama, <\/span><b>50 young people, 25 in Chiriqu\u00ed and 25 in Panama City, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will take part in the training process. In addition to providing tools to move from recognition to defence: how to use the Rights of Nature to strengthen advocacy and protect ecosystems and territories.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>From Panama to the world: a new generation of environmental leaders<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>Nature Leaders<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> it is part of a broader vision of The Oxygen Project, which is to build capacity and connect a new generation of people committed to environmental defence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Oxygen Project has built a global network bringing together more than <\/span><b>1,100 leaders in 66 countries<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, linking education, collaboration and environmental action.
